Interesting Finds: USS Gravely cap

December 2023, a cap was found washed up around the Bill point, bit seaweed-y, been in the sea a while maybe, depicting the name of the USS Gravely DDG 197 an American guided missile destroyer. We contacted the cap manufacturer, The Corps (supplier of caps for all U.S. Navy ships), based in Santa Barbara, CA to let them know where one had washed up and it turned out the Production Manager was from Scotland. He was delighted to hear from us.
 

We reckon the cap was lost when the USS Gravely made a brief logistics stop in Portsmouth in June 2022, which puts it entering the water around the same time as the underwater camera we found earlier that year.
